Is your child suitable?

Your child will need to have the following attributes:

• Talent
Professional attitude
Strong work ethic
Dedication

What's involved?

It is key that, as parents, you realise and accept the commitment of supporting a child wishing to pursue a career in TV and Theatre.

You will often receive details of a casting at very short notice and be expected to drop everything to get your child to the right place on time and fully prepared. This can be a daunting prospect!

From experience, it is fair to say children under the age of 13 and under 5ft tend to get more opportunities in theatre than the older children. Also, boys have a huge advantage as there tend to be less competition. You may go months without a casting and then be offered three in a week – it is an unpredictable business!

After a casting, you will only be informed if you have been shortlisted or cast. The casting directors do not have time to give feedback. The children are always treated kindly and thanked for their time but ultimately if they do not get the job it can be upsetting for them. It is important to remember the casting directors have key ideas of what they are looking for and often it comes down to suitability!

Is this right for you and your child?

Does your child want to work professionally?

Are you happy for them to miss occasional school days to attend castings and jobs? In the event of a successful casting, a letter from the school confirming support will be required to get a performance license.

Will they enjoy the experience?

Are you able to support them by getting them to castings at short notice?

Are they medically well? In the event of a successful casting a doctor’s letter will be asked for as evidence.
